Back to basics

For 10 years Japan has been moving away from their traditional education practices, which emphasized memorization and rote learning, toward “pressure-free education,” which emphasizes creative thinking and application of knowledge. This experiment has failed and they are now going “back to basics” to recapture the quality of education that has for so long been a source of pride.

The U.S. is behind the curve on this. Our experiment has been running a lot longer, but we’ve yet to take corrective measures.
